Top five skincare tips for brides.

From the latest face scrubs to the most high tech facials, we are always striving to find the secrets of gloriously smooth and fresh faced skin.  It’s a never ending quest for us all it seems.

It’s one of the biggest wedding day worries for many brides to be- how to have immaculate luminous camera ready skin for the big day. I get asked by so many of my brides to be about how to ensure their skin looks smooth and blemish free, without the need for hours of photoshopping after the big day!

So I decided to enlist the help of one of my favourite hair and make up artists – Victoria Farr, for her top 5 tips to help you get the skin you dream of for your wedding day. And it’s actually far more simple than you think.

So here are Vicki’s top tips.

1. Water intake – anything from 1 to 2 litres a day has an amazing effect on the skin, cleaning out toxins from your liver, making your skin hydrated and clear.  I also have each morning, a cup of hot water and a slice of lemon, cleanses the system after your beauty sleep.

2. No more face wipes!  Ok, they are a one off/quick fix approach but long term they do not fully cleanse the skin of all the day’s pollution and grime, so a cleanser to clean the face which opens the pores, if I have a lot of make up on or indeed a day in the city, then I do a double cleanse.  Then a spritz of toner to close the pores and then a nourishing moisturiser – all dependent upon your skin type.

3. Weekly does it – once a week exfoliate the skin (face, neck and avoid the eye area) with a scrub, nothing too abrasive, like a salt scrub that you would use on your body but designed specifically for the face and also your skin type.

4. Relax – taking time out, whether that is to flick through a magazine, read a book, listen to your favourite album, a long hot bath or even if it’s 10 minutes chill time in the peace and quiet in the park.  Something is better than nothing, you deserve it!

5. Sleep – it’s not called beauty sleep for nothing, anything between 6 and 8 hours is perfect to let your skin renew (with your freshly cleansed face) and for the body to recover from the day.

Thank you so much to the lovely Victoria for this great advice. I can’t believe how much easier it is than I was expecting. I hope it’s useful, best get drinking that Evian!
