Learning never exhausts the mind

Leonardo Da Vinci was correct. “Learning never exhausts the mind”,  its never ending process and as a photographer I feel I learn new things every day. Thats part of the fun.

A couple of weeks ago I attended a 2 day course to learn from a fashion photographer from L.A. I went with an open mind and an open heart, hoping to gain new skills I can use to make my photography even better for my clients. The images you see here were taken on that course. I love the fashion, editorial feel to the lighting. It may not be possible to replicate at every wedding, but there will be times such drama is called for and I’m excited to be using the new skills.

This week I did some more training, this time an intensive course in lighting using flash.  I’ve personally loathed flash at times, so this was a real test of faith for me, working out ways to use it which suit my soft, romantic style and which don’t look too obvious. It all enhances what I do, adds to my skill set and hopefully helps make me stand out. It’s also rather vital for winter weddings as the light fades so fast, if indeed it ever is really enough to shoot in. I came away knowing I can now get flash to work for me and my ” look”, which is pretty cool.

So what’s next? I’m not sure, and thats rather exciting. The learning just keeps on coming.
