Nothing’s real without love – The marriage of Liz and John at Denton Hall, North Yorkshire. Part 1.

Life is a journey. I’ve read that many times and in my younger years I figured that was pretty obvious.

It’s only many years later that I realise the real significance of those few words. We never know what is around the corner. We’re all of us on a journey, through happy times and sadness and it’s the mark of each of us how we take that on and how we embrace all that life is.

Liz and John’s wedding brought it home too. John had suffered personal tragedy in his life, the terrible loss of his wife. I can only begin to imagine the journey he had taken in order to arrive at this, his wedding with Liz. The day was filled with SO much joy and laughter. The couple were surrounded by family and friends who seemed to buoy them with love and positivity. It was an absolute honour to be a part of it.

John giggles like no-one I’ve ever met before. It’s infectious, glorious and its one of my strongest memories of the day. A little giggle of joy.

So, the details. Liz is a very stylish and chic lady and I knew the details of her wedding would be gorgeous and they were. An Ian Stuart dress, some jewellery of her Mothers, shoes with little pom pom style details and a stunning bridesmaid in green. Even the grooms cufflinks were significant, as they are issued under Royal warrant, because Liz’s Dad was awarded an OBE ( he is a cricketing legend).

Liz and the girls enjoyed a leisurely morning preparing at Denton Halls bridal suite in the lodge, tucked away in the grounds and John and his chaps prepared at home. An overcast day soon turned into sun, just as John had read on an online forecast! He was most pleased with its accuracy.

St. Peter’s church, the parish church of Addingham was the setting for the very moving and funny service. It was packed with guests, family and friends here to celebrate a very special event. .

With the formal part of the day over, guests were invited to take a short drive through the narrow country lanes ( in the sunshine) to the magnificent Denton Hall in North Yorkshire. Just as the online weather site had predicted the sun beat down for exactly four hours, just long enough for guests to enjoy the breath taking views and the couple to have some photographs taken. Perfect.

*sigh* isn’t that last image just the epitome of true love? I adore it, it says so much about John and Liz and the extraordinary power of love. As I’ve been writing this blog post the song ” Nothing’s real without Love” by Rebecca Ferguson has been playing softly in the background. It seems so appropriate for this couple. I wish them a lifetime of happiness together and something tells me, they’ll enjoy just that.

In the next instalment, the table details, the reception, speeches and the first dance. Lots more pretty to come.

Many thanks to Ali Lovegrove for so ably assisting me for this wonderful wedding.
