Backstage rocks – Bringing a hint of fashion to weddings

My love affair with fashion won’t have escaped you if you’ve spent more than about 10 seconds on my website or blog.
I’m always blissfully happy flicking through the pages of a glossy mag, lost in a world of beauty and style.

So the inspiration for this shoot was so obvious I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of it before.

Shoots should inspire you, immerse you into another world and give you some ideas to play around with for your wedding or your photo shoot. That’s what this one is all about. You may not want to take the look to this extreme, but you might find something here to work with, something a little different.

I called in the wonderfully talented girls from Debonnesse to help create some Prada inspired looks ( who said bridal hair has to be safe) and together we began imagining the atmosphere backstage at a catwalk show. The hustle and bustle, the noise, the creativity.

Images like these should capture that spirit, they should wrap you up in the atmosphere and build excitement. The same can be done on your wedding day. The photographs can envelop you in the emotions and excitement.

I’d like to think brides choose me as their photographer because they trust me to make them look magazine worthy gorgeous, because they want to relax and know they will look sensational on their big day.

So for this shoot it was really important we didn’t use models. I wanted to work with real women, and show how fabulous hair and make up, great styling and a smiley photographer really can create some front cover style images.

You may recognise one of the girls, Claire was a bride of mine earlier this year, we decided to push the boundaries with her hair and make up, be a little braver. One of next years brides, Carly is also amongst the group ( she’s the one filing her nails) and a couple of Carly’s friends joined us too. Then there’s Lana who married a few months ago and has a spot of the post wedding blues- this shoot was sure to make her smile again.

There are SO many ideas here to inspire you, to set you off on an adventure. From the Prada inspired billowing trousers and leotard, to the mini shift dress of softest cream lace. Personally I love the hair, the sleek and stylish designs which just show off the beauty of the wearer.

I also love the atmosphere of this shoot and the nods towards the wedding day.  The slight hautiness of the catwalk,( think walking up the aisle)  the energy of the build up,(imagine the morning of your big day),  the calmness of waiting ( there are moments of serene stillness on the day) It’s not as far removed from a wedding day as you might think afterall

And the final shot, – it’s a wrap. There’s a buzzing happy energy to the last image. Relief it’s all over and total joy – something else you might find resonates with the biggest day of your life.

( My sincere thanks to the wonderful girls who brought endless dresses, shoes and coats for this shoot and never once stopped smiling, you were all fabulous.

To the wonderfully talented Debs and Shirley from Debonnesse, once again it was a dream to work with you both. You make women look sensational.

The venue for our shoot was the rather splendid studio of No9 Bridal Couture. Linda thank you so much for allowing us to invade, take over the place for the day, and for making endless cups of teas- oh and of course for the posh biscuits.

And finally my thanks to Steven from Forever Films who joined us for the day to help make a promotional film for me. ( More on THAT soon) Steven you managed to tolerate 10 excited women, conversations about outfits and lipstick and me shooting into the light and most impressively you never once even raised an eyebrow! Give the man a medal ;-)

My heartfelt thanks to you all for making this such a special shoot and endless amounts of fun XxX  )
